Positions Available: 

Archaeological Field Technicians 

Survey Type: 

Phase I 

Location: 

Missouri

Pay Rate:  
Field Technician: $22.00/hour
Overtime pay at a rate of 1.5 times your normal rate for hours worked exceeding 40 in a calendar week (Sunday to Saturday). 

Project Duration: 

• Start Date: November 11
• Approximately 4 weeks of work (with a break for Thanksgiving)

*After the project, additional work in Missouri is available through January

Project Mobilization & Demobilization 

Mobilization 

• Will be paid once per session mobilization. 
• Up to 8 hours of drive time allotted. 
• Mileage at $0.67/mile for up to 500 miles. 
• $55 per diem for travel day. 

Demobilization 

• Will be paid once per session demobilization.
• Up to 8 hours of drive time allotted. 
• Mileage at $0.67/mile for up to 500 miles. 
• $55 per diem for travel day.  

Project Work Schedule:  

• 6 days on/1 day off  
• Sunday will be the day off. 
• Approximately 10 hour work days. 
• Transportation will be provided from the hotel to the work site. This travel time will be paid. 

Per Diem:  

• $55/work day (no receipts required). 
  Direct deposited biweekly. 
  If funds for the week are needed sooner, ESI allows one per diem advance per year. 

Accommodations:  

• Single occupancy hotel rooms. 
• Lodging and per diem will be provided during the 1 day off. 

Qualifications: 

• BA in anthropology, archaeology, or related field. 
• Completed an archaeological field school as part of their education OR 3-6 months of relevant field experience. 
• Able to identify historic and precontact artifacts and features.
• Able to take accurate field notes.
• Familiar with field maps and navigation.
• Able to travel and work in the field for extended periods of time.
• Able to work in remote locations with rugged terrains on projects that require walking and carrying 30+ lbs. gear for extended periods of time. 
• Able to work in variable weather conditions.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license. 
• Must be able to pass all pre-hire screenings.

Note: Part-time hires are called Pro Re Nata (PRN) employees, not seasonal or temporary employees, in our system and documents. Please see the attached “ESI Benefits and Total Rewards Summary 2024” for further information. 
PTO 
ESI provides compensated leave for vacation, personal and sick time as one comprehensive bucket identified as “Paid Time Off” or PTO.  After one (1) year of service, pro re nata (PRN) employees qualify for PTO, accrued in one lump sum annually, based on the number of years of service and the number of hours worked in the prior calendar year.  
PTO may be taken in 4- or 8-hour increments. A maximum of 8 hours of PTO may be claimed per 24- hour period. PRN employees may claim PTO at any time of year, including during a work leave of absence. Likewise for PRN employees, PTO is always paid at the “straight time” rate and does not contribute to “hours worked” for the calculation of hours eligible for overtime wages, regardless of when it is recorded in the pay week.  
Accrued, unused PTO for all staff is rolled from one year to the next, up to a maximum of 320 hours’ worth, after which the excess amount is paid out to the employee. All accrued, unused PTO is paid out upon an employee’s departure from the organization. 
Healthcare (Medical, Dental, Vision) 
Starting in the second season of employment, all PRN staff working more than 624 hours in the prior year are eligible to participate in ESI’s healthcare coverage. The percentage paid by ESI is determined by the number of hours worked in the prior calendar year. Employees may elect to enroll in just one or all of the offered coverages. 
Dependent coverage is available, employee pays 100% of dependent premiums. 
401(k) Plan 
After 1 year of service and the next plan entry date (1 January and 1 July), all employees working more than 1,000 hours in the prior year are eligible to participate in ESI’s 401(k) plan via salary deferral and receive a matching contribution. 
Employee contributions up to 5% of salary deferrals are matched by ESI at 100%.
