The Pacific West Region is recruiting for a summer seasonal located in Lewis and Clark National Historic Park, to assist permanent staff with Museum Technician field work.

The Museum Technician performs tasks associated with collections management under the direct supervision of the park Cultural Resource Specialist. Major projects include digitization of collections items and ensuring accurate and complete data. Museum records management involves documenting, inventorying and cataloging items, and preparing and maintaining printed and digital museum records. Appropriate handling of items is essential during housing and rehousing, cataloging, and digitization. Staff can expect prolonged periods of data entry and review. A variety of curatorial duties can be anticipated including work with collections of the material remains of past human life and activities, such as human fossils, relics, artifacts, monuments, etc., in relation to environmental and social relations, and culture.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) such as experience related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. Most positions require a particular subject-matter specialization, e.g., aeronautics, anthropology, art, geology, history, natural science, technology, biology, or zoology. Additional specialized experience includes assisting with collections management such as unpack, process and repack museum objects; label and prepare objects for storage or display; catalog objects into museum database; maintain and organize curatorial records; perform routine cleaning of museum objects per established standards. You must include hours per week worked.
EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least completed at least 4 years above high school leading to a bachelor’s degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field such as art, history, museum studies, archeology, anthropology, or other courses related to this position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts to receive any credit for your education.
Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above.First take the number of semester hours (or equivalent), in excess of the first 60 semester hours earned towards your degree and divide by 60 semester hours (or equivalent). Then take the number of months of full- time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the two percentages. The total must equal at least 100 percent in order to qualify. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
