The Research Archaeologist will serve as a statewide specialist administering archaeological sites through the State Historical Society’s Cultural Resource Inventory (CRI) databases, providing access, instruction, and maintenance for the North Dakota Cultural Resource Survey (NDCRS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) database. The position will provide guidance and generate information for research about, and review of, archaeological and historical topics. The Research Archaeologist reports to the State Archaeologist, who reports to the Director of Archaeology and Historic Preservation.
The agency is re-envisioning its mission, culture, and organizational structure to better align with our strategic priorities and development of team talent. As the experts in Great Plains Archaeology and as the leaders in technological advancements in archaeological methods, this position will also be responsible for projects aimed at furthering the understanding of prehistory and history of North Dakota.
