AllStar Ecology (ASE), a multi-disciplinary ecological consulting and contracting firm; is seeking a Project Archaeologist to work out of its headquarters in Fairmont, WV. The chosen applicant will be expected to contribute to our cultural resource services and to work with a team of accomplished archaeologists, biologists, and ecologists on a variety of projects in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Responsibilities include archaeological and architectural fieldwork and report preparation, while coordinating with other staff throughout to ensure the quality of data, fieldwork, and paperwork. On-the-job training will be provided, but the chosen applicant is expected to have enough professional experience and knowledge to begin contributing to projects shortly after hire. The chosen applicant can expect to be fast-tracked to a Principal Investigator role, if committed to professional development and learning about the industry from our experienced staff.
Wage
- $20 – $28 Full Time
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in archaeology (or closely related field with strong work experience)
- Professional experience of 2+ years
- Current Register of Professional Archaeologists affiliation (or qualified for RPA status)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong technical writing ability demonstrated through contributions to survey reports, agency correspondence, and/or resource forms successfully submitted to clients or agencies
- Working knowledge of Section 106, USACE permitting including Appendix C, and the NRHP criteria
- Working knowledge of artifact analysis and cataloging (prehistoric and historic-period preferred)
- Ability to work 10+ hour days of physically demanding work under varying weather (hiking, carrying loads up to 50 pounds, excavation, deep augers)
- Ability to work for periods of out-of-town travel (estimate 10-20% of work days)
- Ability to work both independently or closely with a team
Desired Qualifications
- Supervisory experience of 2+ years (minimum one year prehistoric and one year historic-period preferred)
- Past experience preparing technical reports for WV and OH SHPOs
- Work experience in West Virginia and Ohio
- Experience with NEPA, FERC, DOD, FHWA
- Proficiency in ArcGIS
- Proficiency with Trimble or equivalent submeter GPS and associated software
- Professional experience with Section 106 and applying the NRHP criteria
- Working knowledge of historical architecture and cemeteries
- Working knowledge of soils and geomorphology (especially fluvial)
- Working knowledge of permitting concerns, aboveground components, and client SOPs for natural gas and other energy development projects
