Archaeological Technicians/Centennial Archaeology Temporary

Centennial Archaeology LLC, a cultural resource management company based in Fort Collins, Colorado is seeking qualified Field Technicians for both excavation and survey projects in Colorado and Wyoming. Fieldwork is expected to begin September 20, 2023 and is expected to continue through late October (contingent on project results). Projects include a mitigative excavation near Idaho Springs, Colorado, a Class III pedestrian inventory near Kemmerer, Wyoming, and other smaller survey projects as needed.

Rate: $20 – $24 / hour depending on experience

• Potential for overtime at 1.5x the hourly rate
• Single-occupancy hotel rooms during sessions
• $60 / night cash per diem – no receipts

Job Description:

Field Technicians assist the Project Director and Crew Chief in completing fieldwork and collecting data. The positions are project-based and temporary full-time for the duration of the project work, but there is a potential for a successful candidate to be shifted to other projects and/or laboratory work as needed to achieve work targets. Single-occupancy hotel rooms and per diem will be provided during field sessions. Work will be conducted in 8-day field sessions extending from Wednesday one week through Wednesday the following week. Field days are 10 hours in length including travel time from the office/hotel to the project site.

For excavation work Field Technicians will be expected to excavate and screen materials, identify prehistoric artifacts and features, draw soil profiles, map materials, organize recovered artifacts, and record data on company-provided devices. On survey projects Field Technicians will be expected to hike systematic parallel transects and keep pace with the survey line; identify, delineate, and record both prehistoric and historic resources; record data and take photographs on company-provided devices. All Field Technician work will be conducted under the supervision and guidance of the Project Director and/or Crew Chief of the project.

Field Technician Qualifications:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field is required.
• Completion of an accredited Archaeology field school (or comparable field experience) is required.
• Previous CRM experience is preferred, especially excavation experience and experience working in the Great Plains and Central Rocky Mountains.
• Familiarity with both prehistoric and historic cultural resources is required.
• Ability to travel to a location, excavate and screen for 8-9 hours and/or survey 5-13 miles in in a single day across rugged terrain, work long hours in sometimes inclement weather, and to carry personal gear as well as equipment weighing up to 40 lbs is required.
• Knowledge of total stations, ESRI Collector/Survey 123, Garmin, and other GPS types is preferred.
