Southern Research is looking for Archaeological Field Technicians for a Phase I survey in the mountains of western North Carolina. Candidates must have experience in landform-based survey techniques. Proficiency in reading topographic maps and using a sighting compass is required. Candidates must also have experience in shovel testing, visual inspection of surface exposure, and the ability to identify both precontact and historic artifacts common in this region of the country. The work will involve pedestrian survey in steep mountainous terrain and will be physically demanding.
This project is expected to last approximately four weeks, with 40-hour work weeks Mondays-Fridays. The rate for this temporary position will be between $19.00-$21.00 per hour, depending on experience level. $45 per diem will be allotted for each workday while single occupancy lodging will be provided and paid for by Southern Research. Lodging during the intervening weekends will be considered for candidates that live too far away to reasonably commute to and from home between work weeks.
