Summary
You will serve as an ARCHEOLOGIST in the MARINE CORPS INSTALLATIONS PACIFIC-MARINE CORPS BASE BUTLER of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP BUTLER. Duties
You will review proposed Marine Corps actions, Military Construction (MILCON), Japanese Facilities Improvement Program (JFIP) and special projects, master plans, special studies, and site approvals for potential impact to archeological and cultural.
You will lead professional and scientific teams in planning, coordinating, and conducting archeological studies on MCB Butler and MCAS Futenma, including conducting test digs and preparing technical reports.
You will identify requirements for and prepares Scopes of Work and cost estimates for archeological technical services.
You will participate in and conducts program and unit Environmental Compliance Evaluation (ECE) of the Cultural Resources Management Program and selected Marine Corps activates.Requirements

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: maintaining a broad range of archeological historical and cultural preservation and archeological projects that includes incorporating theories and methods related to archeology.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
Physical Demands
The work includes weekly site visits requiring physical exertion in the form of extensive walking over rough, uneven ground, and rocky surfaces; climbing over rough, muddy, uneven, swampy terrain; periods of bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; and lifting of moderately heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds in outdoor environments such as the Central Training Area and Northern Training Area. Work may be done in high humidity, hot tropical sun, and at times heavy rain.
Work Environment
Much of the work is in an office setting; however, work also includes duty in environments such as the Central Training Area and Northern Training Area. At times there is a possibility of exposure to potentially dangerous situations, including accidental detonation of unexploded ordnance that is to be found all over the impact area of the Central Training Area. Additional hazards include potential exposure to venomous snakes and insects, poisonous plants, high humidity year-round, occasional typhoons, and steep cliffs with rocky terrain. Precautions taken include training, institutional knowledge, and escort service provided by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel where needed. Travel will be on foot, in government, or privately owned vehicles, ferries, and military aircraft.
Education
Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
1. Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas:
History of archeology.
Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa.
Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development.
Theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques.
Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work.
AND
Six semester hours of related course work in:geography, geology, or cultural geography;
history, historiography, or historical archeology;
environmental studies;
scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or
surveying;
AND
Archeological field school.
2. Related Curriculum: degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in A.1 (including archeological field school).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education.

Experience
Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project.
