Summary
This position is located in the Northeast Archeological Resources Program of the Cultural Resource Division of the Interior Region 1.
These positions are TEMPORARY seasonal not to exceed 1039 hours work in a service year.

Duties
As an Archeological Technician, GS-0102-07 with the National Park Service (NPS), your duties will include, but are not limited to:

Participates in archeological field surveys by walking over the landscape and searching for archeological features and artifacts, conducting the hand excavation of shovel test pits and test units, and periodically monitoring ground disturbing activities to prevent damage to archeological resources.
Records data and prepares survey records (e.g., site maps, photographs, surface artifact analysis forms, field notes, etc.).
Performs basic research by conducting interviews, performing archival research, reviewing archeological site records and reports, and synthesizing information collected for scientific, historical, and interpretive values.
Assists other technicians and NPS archeologists with performance of archeological baseline inventory research and fieldwork.
Conducts archeological site condition assessments including GPS mapping and confirming legacy archeological site information through limited archeological testing to confirm the accuracy and reliability of legacy archeological data.
Assesses archeological data completeness, quality, and accuracy for inclusion in the Cultural Resources Inventory System Archeology (CRIS-AR) database.
Assesses archeological spatial data completeness, quality, and accuracy for inclusion in park and regional GIS databases and assists in processing and analyzing archeological spatial data generated during baseline inventory projects.
Contributes chapters or parts of chapters to technical reports summarizing archeological baseline inventory projects.
Processes and analyzes archeological artifacts collected during baseline inventory projects.
Assists regional archeology program during trainings and educational and outreach opportunities provided to park staff, partners, and the public.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is February - September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.
 
Conditions of Employment

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid state driver's license.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/03/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
To qualify for this position, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level performing tasks involved in conducting archeological field surveys; searching for archeological features and artifacts and recording survey results through field notes, site maps, or photographs; conducting supervised excavation and testing of archeological sites; utilizing tools and equipment common to archeological functions (e.g., topographic maps and other archeological survey tools)
OR
One full year of graduate education in a related field such as: Historical or Precolonial Archeology, Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Geoarchaeology, History, or Historic Preservation.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education
To qualify based on education, you must possess one full year of graduate education in a related field such as: Historical or Precolonial Archeology, Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Geoarchaeology, History, or Historic Preservation.
You must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
