Dovetail Cultural Resource Group (Dovetail) is a woman-owned cultural resource management (CRM) firm headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with an office in Wilmington, Delaware, serving the greater Mid-Atlantic region. Our philosophy is centered on helping clients and agencies achieve their preservation goals while fostering an internal atmosphere of collaboration, sound science, and respectful interactions within our staff.
Dovetail is seeking applications for Archaeological Technicians throughout our service area. Specific projects starting in January include a long-term Phase I project in southern Virginia (minimum of 10 weeks of work, possibly four months or more), Phase I projects in northern Virginia and northern West Virginia, and Phase I and II projects in Delaware and New Jersey. Work is on a project-by-project basis, though we seek to transition Archaeological Technicians to new projects as availability allows.
Archaeological Technicians are primarily responsible for performing archaeological fieldwork, with Phase I fieldwork consisting primarily of shovel test surveys; identifying archaeological artifacts and
features; and completing notes and paperwork according to Dovetail’s field and reporting methodologies. Responsibilities may also extend to working in the laboratory or performing data entry
or similar office tasks. The ideal candidate will be well-organized and detail-oriented, with strong communication skills.Project schedules are typically Monday through Friday, with hotel and per diem for non-locals during the workweek (per diem rates vary by location); weekend hotels may be available for long-term
projects. Pay range is generally $16.00 to $18.00 per hour, though the rate for the southern Virginia project is $19.00 per hour. Benefits include paid sick leave and holidays; AFLAC supplemental
insurance; and 401k with matching; the position is eligible for performance-based bonuses.Minimum qualifications and critical competencies:
