Summary
The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo—shaping the future by preserving heritage, discovering new knowledge, and sharing our resources with the world.  The National Collections Program (NCP) serves as a principal advocate and advisor to Smithsonian senior leadership, collecting unit directors and staff on matters relating to collections stewardship. 
Duties
The Collection Emergency Program Specialist assists an inter-organizational and interdisciplinary effort to develop and implement strategies and best practices for collections emergency management. 
 In the position you will:

Provide administrative and programmatic support, reviews, and analysisof the activities and progress of museums, archives, and libraries focused collections emergency management-based projects, committees, working groups, forums, conferences, videos, and special events.
Review collections emergency management content for currency and appropriateness.
Collect, analyze, and prepare information in collaboration with internal museum, archive, and library stakeholders and external contacts using past knowledge of museum, cultural heritage and/or visual arts processes regarding existing and needed programming, resources, and training to support Smithsonian collections emergency mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
Maintain and modify multiple internal programmatic and project-based information sharing platforms, including SharePoint and other sharing platforms.

Qualifications
Qualification requirements, including one year time-in-grade at the next lower grade level for promotion candidates, must be met within 30 days of the job announcement closing date.

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system.  For this position Specialized experience is defined as gathering information regarding existing and needed programming, resources, and training; coordinating with appropriate staff to ensure adequate collections emergency management procedures are in place, corresponding with museums, archives, and library professionals regarding collection emergency management; creating, organizing, and maintaining several types of files; and using and maintaining SharePoint or equivalent to exchange information.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
