Position Description: 
Acacia is looking to hire temporary, project-based Archeologists to support a variety of projects. Immediate upcoming work includes month-long projects in Dallas-Fort Worth and in central Louisiana. Additional projects are taking place around Texas.
Pay Range:  
$20 to $25 per hour, depending on experience. For overnight travel, crew members will receive per diem of $59 (unless otherwise noted for specific projects) and a paid single occupancy hotel. Travel reimbursement available when driving to and from projects. 
Working under the supervision of a project lead, technicians will provide assistance with various project tasks including, but not limited to, field work, site documentation, written record keeping, and technical reporting as needed. Candidates must be able to identify and record artifacts, soil characteristics, and understand site identification, delineation, and documentation procedures. Technicians should have some experience with reading maps and using a handheld GPS unit.  
Potential project fieldwork includes Phase I pedestrian surveys, monitoring, evaluative test excavation, and site mitigation. Phase II and Phase III projects are possible. Technicians should be able to conduct fieldwork for multiple projects at all levels of investigation. Fieldwork will take place within Texas, with the possibly of work in surrounding states.  
Travel is required and mobilizations will vary in length, depending on the project. Generally, mobilizations will not be longer than ten days at a stretch. Office-based work, if offered, can be set up remotely and/or in one of Acacia’s office locations (Austin, San Antonio, and Houston). Work could lead to permanent salaried employment for the right candidate. 
Qualifications: 
Candidates must have: 

at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology or related field 
the ability to safely perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., walk and dig shovel tests over long distances in rugged and unfamiliar terrain, often in remote locations, and in hot temperatures) 
the ability to carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds while walking for long hours.  
ability to work with a team to execute project deliverables 
ability to travel to different project locations 

Preference will be given to candidates who have:  

completed an accredited archeological field school 
12+ months of previous archeological experience 
a knowledge of Federal and State preservation laws and regulations 
strong technical writing and communication skills 
experience working in Texas and surrounding states 
specialized skills and expertise in one or more of the following: historical research, lithic analysis, faunal analysis, GIS, or analysis of pre-contact period ceramics.   

Additional Information: 
This is a temporary, as-needed position. Compensation is based on education and experience. Estimated time in the field is 75-90%. Vehicles and transportation to the project location from one of Acacia’s offices may be provided for specific projects.
