Duties

Assists with on-the ground field studies and surveys.
Prepares description of artifacts found.
Identifies and packages artifacts to be removed from the site.
Prepares information such as reports, maps, and photographs.
Participates in cultural resource inventories to identify cultural, historic and/or paleontological resources.
Plans and carries out non-complex cultural resource field inventories.
Determines inventory methods to use, identifies area to be inventoried and schedules inventory.
Complies, summarizes and interprets data obtained during inventories.

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-06 level you must meet one of the following:
You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: working with a professional archeologist, planning and carrying out field studies to identify cultural, historic and/or paleontological resources and writing reports based on findings; and applying and adapting a wide range of established data analysis methods to fit a variety of circumstances.

Education: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate education directly related to the work of an Archeology Technician. You must include transcripts.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
To qualify at the GS-07 level you must meet one of the following:
You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: conducting archaeological field surveys; performing searches for archaeological features and artifacts and recording survey results through field notes, site maps, or photographs; and/or conducting independent excavation and testing of archaeological sites. You must include hours per week worked.

Education: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate education directly related to the work of an Archeology Technician. You must include transcripts.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles sometimes in remote locations.
Work Environment: Office work is performed in an adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. During fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
