Summary
You will serve as a HISTORIAN in the MARINE CORPS HISTORY DIVISION located at Marine Corps University in Quantico, VA.
Duties

You will serve as the Reference Historian for the History Division, as a bridge between the Archives and Histories Branches, and all external agencies (HQMC, all federal agencies, and the public) seeking support on Marine Corps historical matters.
You will maintain situational awareness of responses and track resolution for reporting purposes.
You will be the duty expert on many aspects of Marine Corps history, to include how it relates to and influences the military, political, and social history of the United States.
You will ensure that the Lineage and Honors Program meet the requirements set forth in the order and that each unit's organizational lineage, honors, and heraldry have been accurately researched and published.
You will have the opportunity to develop your own official history publication projects, subject to your primary duties, and coordination with the Chief Archivist, Chief Historian, and the Division Director.
You will serve as content editor and internal project manager for manuscripts developed by non-Division sources, provide graduate-level instruction on Marine Corps history topics, and present papers on topics relevant to Marine Corps history.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing reference and research services pertaining to United States and United States military history; 2) Overseeing historical programs (ie. Military Commemorative Naming Programs, Lineage and Honors Programs); 3) Drafting, editing, publishing, and reviewing the accuracy of articles and reports on historic military events; and 3) Providing archival digitization support for print resources.

Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must posses:
Basic Education Requirement:
A. Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

The following can be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualification requirements of this position at the GS-11 Level:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
a combination of graduate education and experience totaling 100%.
Evaluation of Graduate Education
Graduate study in the social sciences or humanities may also be credited when such study included training in historical research methodology; or the thesis approached the subject from an historical viewpoint and used professional historical research methodology and techniques in its preparation.
