We are looking for an On-Call Archaeological Field Technician in the Seattle, Portland, and Bend areas.
Who We Are
We are a 100% employee-owned environmental consulting firm that values diversity and inclusion and celebrates the differences that make each of us unique. Our culture is built on mutual respect, recognizing that our variety of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives leads to better solutions, which fosters our continued success for our employee-owners and clients.
Who You Are
You are an effective team member experienced in archaeological monitoring, surveys, testing, data recovery, and documentation of archaeological resources in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal guidelines and requirements.
You are familiar with working on active construction sites, are knowledgeable of archaeological materials common to the region, and have a minimum of one year of archaeological experience in the Pacific Northwest.
You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology or a related science and have a valid driver’s license. Applicants with significant field experience are encouraged to apply and will be compensated accordingly.
You are confident working outside, in remote and rural settings, as well as in urban environments. Physical outdoor work may include, but may not be limited to, extensive field work and site visits in all types of weather, traversing uneven ground and sometimes steep terrain in forested environments, fields, arid lands, along stream banks, and in coastal/intertidal areas. May be exposed to inclement weather and uncomfortable working conditions. You are able to work some nights and/or weekends. You are available for occasional remote field work assignments throughout Washington and Oregon.
What You Will Do for ESA
ESA’s Northwest region cultural resources group needs part time staff to support our 2022 (and future) projects. You will work as part of a team to conduct pedestrian survey, shovel and auger probing, construction monitoring, geotechnical testing, controlled test excavations and data recovery; catalog and analyze field samples; contribute to preparing technical reports.
Perform all aspects of archaeological monitoring on construction sites, coordinate with construction personnel, maintain written daily monitoring logs, utilize electronic data collection tools and GIS mapping applications, and identify and accurately communicate compliance concerns and potential non-compliance
Employment is on a variable, part-time or project basis. Work schedules are subject to changes, and flexibility is valued.
Work locations will be a mix between projects local to the Puget Sound area, and travel-based assignments across Washington and Oregon. Per diem or receipt-based expense reimbursement will be provided for all travel based assignments. Mileage will be paid if you provide your own vehicle. Company vehicles and or rentals may be used depending on employee needs and project logistics.
ESA has established multiple pay ranges tailored to the economic factors in the geographies in which ESA staff reside. For this position the range is $22.37 – $31.31/hr or $20.13 – $28.18/hr based on our anticipated hiring locations as noted in the above job details. Actual compensation is determined by a number of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, skills, and the city in which the applicant lives.
What’s Special About ESA
Joining ESA means becoming part of a close-knit team of environmental professionals who contribute to outstanding projects, improve environmental stewardship, and advance a more sustainable and resilient future for our communities and wild places.
You are eligible to participate in ESA’s sick leave program. You may be eligible to participate in our employee stock ownership program and tax deferred 401(k) plan if you meet the eligibility requirements for these plans.
