Duties
Major Duties:
Incumbent will participate in basic archeological field surveys by walking over the landscape and searching for archeological features and artifacts. Records data and prepares survey records such as site maps, photographs, field notes, etc. Conducts limited supervised excavation and testing of sites, including the careful recovery of sample materials. Processes specimens recovered in the field and prepares specimens to be sent to dating laboratories. Identifies, labels, and packages artifacts for curation. Maintains field equipment and supplies. Maintains related databases, forms, maps, and files. Performs data entry into GIS systems, databases, spreadsheets and archival records.
Works cooperatively in a team environment. Field work is performed outdoors with exposure to heat, sun, insects, allergens, and other hazards. Work requires physical exertions such as bending, crouching, stooping, and lifting.
Area Information:
Hopewell Culture National Historical Park is located 2 miles north of the town of Chillicothe, Ohio on State Highway 104. Hopewell Culture is 50 miles south of Columbus, Ohio.
The park's location at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains has a moderate climate with seasonal weather. Summers are generally hot and humid with occasional thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures in the summer average between 80 to 90 degrees F. Winters are cold with occasional, moderate accumulations of snow generally less than six inches. Daytime temperatures in the winter average between 30 to 40 degrees F.
Chillicothe (population 22,000) provides K-12 schools, a branch campus of the Ohio University, a regional hospital, and a variety of stores, restaurants, motels, and banks. Columbus provides all modern amenities, collegiate opportunities, and cultural features of a major metropolitan area. Park housing is not available.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/27/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect either full-time or 40 hours per week. If a part-time work schedule is reflected, the hours must be annotated to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
To qualify for this position, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: One Year of Specialized experience equivalent to a GS-4 in federal service that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position or provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Examples of specialized experience include: participating in archeological field surveys; searching for archeological features and artifacts and recording survey results through field notes, site maps, or photographs; conducting supervised excavation and testing of archeological sites; and similar work. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of full 4 years of post-high school education that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses related to the position such as anthropology, archeology, history, geology, geography, soil science, geomorphology, museum studies, historic preservation, or cultural resources management. At least 3 semester hours must be directly related to the position such as archeology or world pre-history. NOTE: If you are qualifying based on education, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts. ALSO, YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS MUST INDICATE COMPLETION OF AN ARCHEOLOGICAL FIELD SCHOOL.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience which includes at least 3 semester hours of education which are directly related to the position such as archeology or world pre-history.as described above, which when combined as percentages of the general experience and education requirements, respectively would total 100 percent. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
You will NOT be considered under Pathways unless you provide supporting information from your school. Documentation may be provided in letter format from your academic advisor, school counselor, admission office, etc. to prove enrollment OR it may be provided in the form of several official documents from your school such as a copy of your official transcripts and a copy of your class schedule for next semester. Copies of documents from your school website are acceptable if they contain all relevant information as listed above. Letters from advisors or other school officials must be on school letterhead.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
