The Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist (OSA) seeks a Research Archaeologist to join the team! This Research Archaeologist position reports to the OSA research directors and exercises functional supervision of field and lab technicians as assigned to specific project teams. Perform field investigations, laboratory analyses, and prepare reports in accordance with project needs, established guidelines, and in coordination with the research director and project staff. Frequent in-state travel is required. This position will also require the physical ability to work and walk outside all day in all weather conditions carrying heavy loads while conducting field survey and excavation.

The Office of the State Archaeologist of Iowa (OSA) reports to the Vice President for Research at the University of Iowa (Iowa City, Iowa), centrally located less than five hours from Chicago, St. Louis, Omaha, and Minneapolis. For over 60 years, the OSA has studied and documented Iowa’s archaeological heritage. OSA incorporates that knowledge in its programs to protect, preserve, and interpret these irreplaceable and nonrenewable resources within the context of Iowa’s need to encourage and promote sustainable development.Qualifications:
