The successful candidate will serve as a Cultural Resources and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Specialist at Fort Gordon, Georgia, in support of the Fort Gordon Environmental Division. The candidate will support Cultural Resources management and NEPA compliance on the Installation and perform the following tasks:
Prepare, review, and provide comments on various plans and reports such as the historic building surveys, Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan (ICRMP), historic preservation plans, and archaeological surveys.
Conduct annual inspections of historic properties, sites, and structures. Conduct site field inspections to determine potential effects of military field training, construction, and other projects on historic properties, sites, and structures.
Prepare updates to Fort Gordon’s ICRMP which includes a required 5-year update and support implementation of ICRMP requirements.
Prepare documents, reports, photographs, displays, etc. required to fulfill Memorandums of Agreements (MOA) between Fort Gordon and the
Georgia State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and culturally affiliated federally recognized Indian tribes, as necessary.
Prepare NEPA documents, real estate environmental documents, and other related environmental documents.
Review and provide comments on environmental checklists, environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, installation work orders, construction plans, environmental baseline surveys, and other related documents.
Update and maintain the MS Access NEPA database and other government databases.
Conduct field inspections of construction sites, field training operations, and real estate projects for NEPA compliance.
Prepare reports and briefings, participate in environmental planning meetings, and respond to data calls.
Provide NEPA and Cultural Resources training and educational outreach to installation personnel.
Eligible candidate must have the below requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in archeology, historic architecture, historic preservation, or related cultural resources management field. A Master’s degree is desired.
Knowledge of the NEPA process and requirements and relevant laws and regulations.
Proficient with MS Office Suite and database management.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to speak publicly.
Ability to work independently once direction is provided.
Ability to pass a government background investigation and drug screening.
A valid driver’s license.
Ability to conduct field data collection and inspections which requires long periods of walking on various types of terrain. Fieldwork is
conducted year-round.
Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000/year
