Description
SEARCH has an immediate opening for a full-time experienced Laboratory Archaeologist to join our Gainesville, FL lab staff. This role will collaborate with our archaeology projects to successfully produce accurate artifact analyses and defensible results and interpretations in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain the highest professional image for our clients, co-workers, media, and the public;
Possess a positive attitude and strong work ethic and promote these values across the company;
Work within a cohesive lab environment committed to the sharing of knowledge and working as a team;
Comply with laboratory health and safety procedures;
Intake, organize, analyze, and prepare archaeological artifacts for analysis (including artifact stability assessment and washing);
Maintain artifact provenience at all stages of lab analysis;
Perform general analysis on a full range of material culture artifacts;
Keep a list of technical and analytical skills and update list upon learning and adapting new skills;
Keep appraised of research literature regarding artifact analysis;
Draft artifact descriptions for the inclusion in technical reports;
Perform data entry using Microsoft Access and Excel;
Participate in Quality Control/Quality Assurance activities following analysis and data entry;
Assist with photographing and editing artifacts for report graphics;
Perform curation activities to project standards;
Maintain knowledge regarding industry standards in archeological curation;
Independently finalize and deliver curated projects;
Maintain strict adherence to budgeted hours and project goals;
Professionally communicate project status to Principal Investigators/Project Managers and Senior Archaeologists as appropriate;
Assist in delivering finalized data to Principal Investigators/Project Managers;
Train new laboratory staff;
Assist in daily monitoring of laboratory duties;
Assist in maintaining project and curation inventories;
Maintain lab organization;
Track lab supplies and inform the Lab Manager when supplies are low;
Travel, possibly for extended periods, to other SEARCH offices and lead laboratory projects and field labs;
and perform other duties as assigned.

Other Important Need-to-Know Information:

This position will be based out of our Gainesville, FL Lab Office.
Applicants reaching, but not quite meeting, listed qualifications may be considered for a lower tier position so long as they demonstrate experience and proficiency with historic artifacts and curation standards.
Applicants must be eligible to be employed in the United States.
This position will report to our Laboratory Manager.

Pay is commensurate with education and experience.

Requirements

Post-graduate degree (preferred) in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field;
Minimum four years laboratory experience in the identification of archaeological artifacts;
Knowledge of methods pertaining to the recovery, treatment, identification, and qualitative, quantitative, and statistical analysis of cultural materials;
Demonstrated knowledge of precontact and historic archaeological artifacts, with emphasis on historic material expertise;
Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory curation standards and methodologies;
Prior archaeology fieldwork experience;
Completion of an archaeological field school;
Technical writing ability;
and the ability to work well in a team environment, under the direction of a Laboratory Director and/or Laboratory Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

Practical working experience in a Cultural Resource Management (CRM) industry laboratory.
Strong, demonstrated background with historic cultural materials of various regions and time periods.
Strong, demonstrated background with curation of cultural materials.
