We are currently seeking a full time Assistant Architectural Historian for projects in the Intermountain West (WY, CO, ID), Pacific Northwest (WA, OR) and Midwest (IN, IL, KS and OK).
 
Pay rate will range between $45,000-50,000 annually and will be based on individual qualifications, experience, and assigned project role.
 
The selected applicant will conduct historic architectural fieldwork and reporting under the supervision of the lead Architectural Historian, Field Directors and/or Principal Investigators. Applicants must be able to perform (or be willing to learn) all tasks associated with survey and reporting. These responsibilities may include identifying potential historic resources, detailed recordation of built environment resources including architectural description, identification of architectural styles and construction dates, historic property and genealogical research, and report writing. Staff will be expected to assist with mapping cultural resources in the field, including collection of GPS data using Arc Collector, digital photography, and recording resources on appropriate state forms and tablets. Applicant may have the ability to work remotely or in the office (Golden, CO) when not in the field.
 
Responsibilities and Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in History, Historic Preservation, Public History, Architecture, or a closely related field is required.
Some experience or coursework in CRM preferred.
Experience or coursework in Architecture or Architectural History ideal.
Knowledge of American Western OR Pacific Northwestern History required.
Familiarity with the National Register of Historic Places, Section 106, and other applicable cultural resource laws preferred.
Experience with computer-based programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Familiarity with ArcGIS and ArcMap preferred.
Strong writing and editing skills with ability to complete cultural resource forms/reports in a timely manner is a must.
Must be prepared to travel in any of the Intermountain West, Pacific Northwest, or Midwestern regions for prolonged field work.
Self-motivated, respectful of others, positive, energetic, and ability to work and participate in a team environment.
Applicant must be a quick learner.
Current valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a 4WD vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads for long periods of time required.
CPR/First Aid training a plus.
Must be able to pass a drug screening
 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Has ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 35 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
Performs manual labor including excavation with shovels. 
Availability to work extended field rotations (sometimes 10-12 days at a time).
 

Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience.
Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000 yr.
