Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Archaeologist for immediate full-time employment in our Cultural Resource practice in New Mexico. The Senior Archaeologist, as a core member of the Cultural Resources Program in the Western US, will report to the Environmental Planning and Permitting Manager for the Rockies/Southwest and Midwest. The Senior Archaeologist will serve as a leader for building and managing a cultural resource team, and bring substantial prior experience as a permitted principal investigator in New Mexico. The Senior Archaeologist will contribute to the growth of the team through preparation of quality deliverables for a variety of clients, and support business development by preparing proposals and participating in the professional cultural resource management community.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Developing and managing a cultural resource team.
Managing and supervising fieldwork (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring), archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and/or GIS mapping.
Managing studies in adherence to permit conditions
Knowing state and federal environmental regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic
Preservation Act, among others.
Handling multiple tasks and communicating priorities to manager.
Operating as primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects, and participating in recurring status meetings, milestone check ins, and day-to-day interfacing.
Working independently and as part of a team.
Exhibiting flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects; including travel.
Pursuing innovation and a problem solving.
Supporting career development of individuals in the practice.
Contributing to technical approaches and cost estimates for proposals.
Performing project management duties.
Reviewing contracts to understand contractual obligations.

Minimum Requirements

BA/BA plus 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s professional qualification standards for Archaeology
Must be willing to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the Southwest.
Current valid driver’s license and U.S. government issued identification

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree or PhD in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field preferred
Fifteen (10-15) years of experience in cultural resource management.
A minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience.
Experience assisting agencies in complying with Sections 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
Experience with career development of junior archaeologists.
Advanced knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas
Demonstration of excellent technical writing skills, and verbal written communication skills.
Experience in consulting with tribal representatives in New Mexico.
Experience supervising large and/or multiple crews on a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and agencies.
Experience working with interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts 
 

Additional Information:

Relocation is not available for this position.
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $68,000 - $126,000.00.
