Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), performing project tasks on land controlled by the U.S. Navy, located at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), in Kekaha, Kauai. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $3,625-$4,400/Mon.
DUTIES: Performs delegated tasks necessary for compliance with Federal, State, and Navy laws and regulations governing possible effects of Navy actions on historical/cultural resources including archival research, document preparation, providing updates on work involving survey, monitoring, or office work to support cultural resource program, Historic Property assessments or treatment, and performance of limited surveys as necessary. Assists in adaptive management planning by providing regular updates on work involving survey, monitoring, or office work to support the Cultural Resources (CR) program and Historic Property assessment. Works to support all fieldwork, including accompanying cultural accesses, monitoring, pedestrian survey, data collection and input, and coordination of assigned tasks/projects. Responds and documents any unanticipated findings in coordination with PMRF CRM. As directed, performs small-scale archaeological surveys, including targeted surveys of protected sites or not previously surveyed areas on base; monitoring of sensitive areas for identification of archaeological materials or osseous remains; driving or walking to access site areas; collects data to support CR program; including report compilation, initial site assessment, determine presence/absence or extent of known archaeological sites, and collection of additional data, utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) to establish and confirm location. Drives project vehicle to work sites. Plans and leads educational events for PMRF team, residents, visitors, and the public to improve awareness of the cultural resources program at PMRF. Maintains flexible hours throughout the week to appropriately support the CR program; weekend hours may be required as part of the regular schedule.
SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in the cultural and archaeological setting specific to military lands in Hawai‘i. Completion of an Archaeological Field School, Hawai’i Archaeological Field School. Certificate or credits earned related to Cultural Resource Management from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Archaeology, Anthropology, Cultural Resource Management, Museum Studies, Applied Forensic Anthropology, or other related field including osteology. Experience in Hawai‘i or Pacific Islands archaeology. Experience performing a variety of cultural resources program tasks, particularly in a governmental agency setting. Knowledge of Department of the Defense cultural resources programs, and the policy, organizational contexts within which they are managed. Familiarity with ArcGIS software or similar.
