JOB DESCRIPTION
Percheron is seeking a talented Senior Specialist Cultural Resources - Principal Investigator (PI) to support our Environmental Department in the Gulf Coast. Candidates with backgrounds in prehistoric and historic archeology are encouraged to apply, though applicants with a specialty in one discipline should have at least a working knowledge of the other. This position involves proposing on, developing, and managing cultural resources management (CRM) projects of all types and sizes from start to completion as well as marketing and business development responsibilities.
 The Environmental Department specializes in natural and cultural resources serving the public and private sectors in conducting resource surveys to support obtaining permits and clearances from environmental resource and government agencies.   We support overall environmental compliance during construction and following in-­‐service.  Percheron provides flexibility to work remotely.
 
Key Responsibilities 

Oversee and participate in all aspects of archeological projects, including proposal development and contracting, staff management, fieldwork, and deliverables, bringing projects in on schedule and within budget. 
Oversee processing of post-­‐field data, including completing archeological site forms and historic structure forms; and overseeing development of map figures, data tables, and illustrations for technical reports. 
Analyze cultural materials and supervise subcontractors and specialized analyses of cultural materials, as necessary. 
Ensure that archeological collections are processed, cataloged, analyzed, and curated according to the specifications of the research design and the guidelines of the curation facility where collections will ultimately be housed. 
Evaluate the significance of archeological sites and historic structures, objects, and districts in terms of their eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and for listing on applicable state registers. 
Serve as lead author on technical reports, research designs, cultural resources management plans, and other technical documents. 
Effectively and efficiently manage field, laboratory, and administrative staff to complete projects on time and within budget. 
Assist with marketing and accomplishment of business development goals. Foster and maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency staff, tribes, private sector clients, and other industry professionals.
Assist with recruiting, training and mentoring cultural resources staff.

 
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Qualifications

A Master's degree or higher in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field is required.
A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in cultural resources management overseeing fieldwork and report completion, supervision and mentoring of professional and administrative staff, as well as scheduling and budgeting of projects required.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in increasing levels of responsibility in management, including supervising, and providing leadership for other professionals required.
Previous experience serving as Principal Investigator on projects located in Texas and surrounding states. 
Meets Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology/Registration as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA).
Ability to obtain Antiquities Permits from the Texas Historical Commission for projects conducted under the Antiquities Code of Texas as well as other state permitting requirements.
Prior experience in cultural resources management projects conducted for regulatory compliance purposes.
Familiarity with laboratory methods, procedures, and protocols for processing collections of archeological materials (e.g., artifacts, bulk collections) and project records (e.g., field paperwork, photographs, artifact catalogs) for permanent curation at approved curation facilities and ability to oversee laboratory staff to complete curation projects.
Experience regionally related to cultural resources, inventory, significance testing, and data recovery.
Demonstrated business development success and consulting acumen, including substantial established credibility with federal and state reviewing agencies and clients, as well as success in proposal writing.
Demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to the management of cultural resources.
Ability to work unsupervised, functioning as an effective, self-­‐motivated, and highly capable individual.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects and programs, in diverse settings and with changing requirements.
Familiarity with GPS devices and digital data collection.
Team-­‐orientated attitude with strong leadership and mentoring skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Current valid Driver’s License required.
Must be able to travel to field locations and conduct fieldwork in varied terrain and in varying weather conditions.

 
Working conditions

85% office environment; 15% field environment
Ability to drive personal auto to and from client and/or landowner locations is required.
Ability to travel up to 20% per year, as directed by Region/General Manager or client request
