Hurt & Proffitt, Inc., a growing Engineering, Surveying and Environmental Services firm based in Lynchburg, Virginia, is seeking a Project Archaeologist to lead crews on survey projects throughout Virginia. The position is W-9 part time work and allows flexibility, including the ability to be based outside of Virginia and receive paid travel to and from field assignments with teleworking for report writing. We anticipate an average of 35-40 hours weekly through early 2023 with potential to continue beyond.
Responsibilities include leading field crews (primarily on Phase I level survey projects), identifying and recording sites through pedestrian and shovel test survey, preparing site maps, keeping and organizing appropriate field records, conducting background research, preparation of high-quality technical reports in collaboration with our laboratory director and other senior staff. Pay commensurate with experience, minimum of $25/hr. Single occupancy hotel and $55 per diem for fieldwork.
Qualifications:
M.A/M.S. or higher in Anthropology or Archaeology with certified archaeological field school;
Experience directing fieldwork for CRM projects, Mid-Atlantic experience preferred;
Familiarity with preservation laws including the Section 106 process;
Experience with analysis and technical report writing;
Experience with Trimble GPS a plus
