The North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office assists private citizens, private institutions, local governments, and agencies of state and federal government in the identification, evaluation, protection, and enhancement of properties significant in North Carolina history and archaeology. The agency carries out state and federal preservation programs and is a section within the Division of Historical Resources.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in historic preservation, planning, architectural history, or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in historic preservation;
or
Bachelor's degree in history, planning, or architectural history, or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in historic preservation;
or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Please note that internships and teaching/graduate assistant-ships may be counted as experience as long as the work performed is directly relevant to the position.
