Job Summary
Reporting to the Anthropological Studies Center (ASC) Business Director, with additional lead work direction from the ASC Director, the Archaeologist Curator assists the Conservation Branch of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) with tasks related to their Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan (ICRMP). The MCAGCC’s Conservation Branch maintains a cultural resources collection that includes artifacts found on and representing the archaeological prehistory and history of MCAGCC and other Marine Corps installations.The incumbent is responsible for the management and interpretation of MCAGCC’s cultural resources collections and may conduct occasional field duties according to the needs of MCAGCC. Collections management tasks include overseeing inventory, accession, and data entry which will alternate with general collections facility management and upkeep; providing education and outreach tours; and occasionally providing backup leadership and assistance on small-scale surveys and/or site evaluations.
Key Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of three years of related experience in Cultural Resource Management including 2 years of progressively responsible and applicable management and/or supervisory experience. Bachelor's degree in Archaeology/Anthropology, Museum Studies or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. One year working with archaeological resources in the southwest, preferably the Mojave Desert in California and have demonstrated experience curating an archaeological collection required. Advanced degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, CRM, Museum Studies or related field preferred. Higher education experience highly preferred. Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and the ability to quickly learn and use new office support technology systems and software programs required. Knowledge of Google Suite, PeopleSoft, Access, PastPerfect museum software, and GIS preferred.Salary and Benefits
Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $4,000 a month. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
