About the opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Lead Project Manager - Archaeology for our growing cultural resources practice in Southern California. The Lead Project Manager is responsible for leadership of staff, execution of project and client goals, technological innovation, and execution of QA/QC tasks related to the technical aspects of SWCA’s cultural resources work to support Southern California transmission clients. This position reports to the Cultural Resources Director – Transmission and will work closely with other project managers and technical specialists. Remote candidates will be considered. This is a regular, full-time, salaried position.

What you will accomplish

Generate new technical approaches to develop additional work with existing or potential clients.
Build collaborative relationships across offices/geographies to share resources and expertise.
Influence teams within the Southern California subregion even without formal authority.
Lead a team of scientific/technical/professional staff on a project or ongoing basis.
Provide leadership to team members and create a culture that promotes high levels of performance and engagement.
Design technical solutions/approaches and direct their implementation.
Negotiate deliverables and continually communicate with clients and colleagues to manage expectations. 
Resolve risks and impediments through persistence, creative thinking, and a focus on client satisfaction.
Understand SWCA’s business model and basic financials and keep them ‘top of mind’ while making decisions about a client/project situation.
Manage to project or task schedule and budget to achieve project objectives and accountabilities. 

Experience and qualifications for success
REQUIRED

Demonstrates knowledge of project management tools, systems, and principles.
Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or other related cultural resources discipline.
Minimum of four years of experience in environmental consulting required, including two years as a cultural resources project manager.
Experience providing quality control review of archaeological/project documents and reports is required.
Ability to guide high quality technical work.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects with various assigned staff.
Demonstrated experience as a mentor to those at the Staff and Project levels.
Consistent track record of making decisions in highly complex and ambiguous environments.
Possesses a network of relationships within SWCA and with clients.
Demonstrated ability to deliver complex projects on time and on budget.
Can independently lead projects from start to finish.

PREFERRED OR HELPFUL

Master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or other related cultural resources discipline.
Project management experience includes working on a variety of project types and sizes, on all project aspects (from pre-field tasks through final report preparation), in multiple regions, and with a variety of regulatory agencies.
Eligibility for cultural resources permits in this region (California).

An employee in this Pasadena, CA-based position can expect a salary of $88,920.00-$117,000.00/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.  Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
