Alpine is accepting applications for Field Archaeologists. These are temporary, fulltime survey and excavation positions in the western United States. Wages are based on experience, but range from $20 to $22 per hour. A $59 per diem (no receipts required) and housing (single occupancy) provided during field sessions. Company transportation to and from project areas is provided.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will conduct cultural surveys and/or excavations under the supervision of our Staff Archaeologist, with direction from the project’s Principal Investigator. This position requires timely and comprehensive completion of survey, testing, and data recovery projects.
Qualifications:
At a minimum, candidates for this position should have completed college-level course work in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field, although a B.A./B.S. degree in anthropology or closely related field is preferred. A minimum of one month of survey or excavation field experience and/or the successful completion of an accredited field school is required. Experience in the western U.S. is highly desirable. The ability to use a GPS unit, and/or possessing a basic understanding of lithic and ceramics is a plus.
Archaeological fieldwork will constitute the job duties, requiring the ability to regularly perform work of a physical nature. This includes but is not limited to the ability to walk up to 8 miles a day in rugged terrain. The ability to stoop, sit for long periods, carry heavy objects, and use hand tools for digging and scraping may also be required.
