Master’s Level Archaeologist/Southern Research Full Time

Southern Research is a Woman-Owned Small Business established 30 years ago with a focus on providing excellent work for our clients. We are seeking a full-time Archaeologist with a master’s degree to join us. We work for a variety of clients, and the bulk of our work is within Georgia while we occasionally work in the surrounding states. When not conducting fieldwork, you could work in our office in Pine Mountain, Georgia or from home.

Job Responsibilities:

• Conduct field projects and oversee field crews for all phases of fieldwork;
• Conduct historical research, data analysis, NRHP site evaluations, and report writing;
• Consult with clients and agencies;
• Frequent travel within Georgia and occasionally to surrounding states.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or higher in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field;
• A minimum of one year of previous work experience in Georgia and/or surrounding states;
• Ability to conduct historical research–have familiarity with archival resources in Georgia & surrounding states
• Strong leadership, teamwork, and supervision skills;
• Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork in various settings;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Excellent computer skills (familiarity with MS Office 365, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
• Experience with GIS and familiarity with current and emerging technologies in the industry;
• Valid driver’s license and legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferences:

• Georgia residence
• Both historic and precontact archaeology background
• Artifact laboratory processing with historic artifact identification background
• Good photography skills

Salary: $52,000 to $64,000, based on experience.
