State: CO; Wages: $27.00/Hr
Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department has an opening for an hourly Archaeology Collections Cataloging Technician to assist with cataloging, numbering, photographing and rehousing the department’s held-in-trust state-owned archaeology collections. The held-in-trust state-owned archaeology collections are estimated to number about 5,000 objects and collected from Boulder County Parks and Open Space properties during the Office of the State Archaeologist permitted projects. 
This is an hourly, non-benefited, term position with Boulder County.  The position is estimated to complete the project in 6 months with the possibility for extension if project funding is approved.  Unpaid leave will be required between December 23, 2022 until January 2, 2023 due to the switch to a new budget year.  Work hours are Monday - Thursday from 7:30am - 4:30pm equaling 32 hours a week.  This position is based at the Parks and Open Space office building at 5201 St. Vrain Road, Longmont, Colorado. Remote work is not offered with this position.   
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Hourly Rate:  $27.00

Examples of Duties 

Assisting with the development of archaeology museum collections best practices that include drafting basic written cataloging protocols and digitization procedures for the held-in-trust state-owned archaeology collections into Past Perfect.
Cataloging, including object photography, data gathering, and object numbering, for the held-in-trust state-owned archaeology collections into Past Perfect.
Reconciling the 392 previously cataloged held-in-trust state-owned archaeology collection with current cataloging protocols.
Rehouse the held-in-trust state-owned archaeology collection to ensure proper archival storage and minimal future object handling.
Digitizing the held-in-trust state-owned archaeology collection records.
Develop a plan/protocol to allow the collection to be searched and accessed by qualified researchers and to recommend highlighting some of the collection for the public.
Ability to effectively communicate with supervising staff using verbal and written communication through daily updates of accomplished tasks and anticipated future weekly workplan goals.
Employees are expected to follow current COVID-19 public health orders when working in Boulder County offices and on open space properties.

EXPERIENCE OR EDUCATION:

In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a Master's degree in anthropology (emphasis on archaeology), museum studies, or a related field required with at least three years experience with archaeological museum collections management that includes cataloging, safe object handling, security measures, object number techniques, and proper storage or a bachelors degree in anthropology archaeology, museum studies or a related field accepted with at least three years experience with archaeological museum collections management that includes cataloging, safe object handling, security measures, object number techniques, and proper storage.
DRIVER'S LICENSE and MOTOR VEHICLE CHECK:

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires extended periods of time sitting or standing in front of office computer laptop, monitor, typing on a keyboard and utilizing a mouse; bending, lifting, removing and replacing artifact boxes weighing up to 30 lbs from a metal shelf unit.
Ability to work independently and alone in a secured windowless room for up to 8 hours a day.

Supplemental Information
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrated skill in object photography, working with photographic digital files and maintaining metadata.
Experience with museum collections databases (Past Perfect preferred).
Experience developing and writing cataloging protocols and digitization procedures for archaeology collections.
Understanding and experience with Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), commitment to the ethical stewardship of anthropology collections, and ability to treat objects with care and dignity.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to set priorities and achieve goals.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
