Summary
The incumbent serves as a Archeologist working at the Southeast Archeological Center (SEAC) in Tallahassee, Florida. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 11/08/2022 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.
Duties

Provides programmatic advice, guidance, and support to members of the public and other cultural resource professionals with a focus on preservation partnership programs, including the,
Archeological Assistance Program and National Historic Landmarks (NHL) Program.
Responsible for or makes significant contributions as a consulting party as required by Section 106 and Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and the Historic Sites Acts.
Develops and implements long range plans for the inventory, evaluation, documentation, preservation, research, and interpretation of archeological and other cultural resources within the appropriate mission, objectives, and resources contexts.
Responsible for assisting with the management and long-term preservation of management files of the regional Archeological Assistance Program and National Historic Landmark Program.
Determines research needs and coordinates efforts toward obtaining needed research through various programs, agreements, and contracts. Reviews research project proposals, scopes of work, and task directives prepared for documentation, interpretation, planning, and other management purposes. Serves as Agreements Technical Representative and/or Contracting Officer's Technical
Representative for projects conducted through contracts, interagency agreements, and cooperative agreements. Coordinates research and reviews documents.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/08/2022-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.To qualify for the GS-0193 Archeologist, GS-0193-09 position, applicants must meet the basic Requirements Qualifications for Archeology Series, 0193
Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas:
History of archeology.
Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa.
Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development.
Theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques.
Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work.
And
Six semester hours of related course work in: geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying
And
Related Curriculum: degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in A.1 (including archeological field school).

Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education.

Experience: Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project.In addition to the basic qualification requirements above, applicants must also possess:
Specialized Experience: Applicant must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the federal service. For this position, examples of specialized experience include: With aid of supervisor, evaluating archeological properties using national register and national historic landmark criteria; Assisting in determining the adequacy of existing National Historic Landmark documentation/proposals and recommending needs for further research and evaluation; (3) assisting with conducting reviews or preparing historic preservation documentation, compliance, and background materials to meet Section 106 and Section 110 of the Historic Preservation Act, the Historic Sites Act, NPS Management Policies, and cultural resources management guidelines; and (4) Ability to summarize and interpret highly technical materials regarding archeology and historic preservation for partners and the public.
OR
Have successfully completed two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree; you MUST include transcripts.
OR
Have an equivalent combination of graduate education and specialized experience. To combine education and experience, determine the total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then determine the experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
