Cypress Environmental Consulting is seeking a full-time, salaried staff archaeologist to join our team. In this position, you will conduct anthropological and archaeological site assessments utilizing background information and field techniques in connection with locating, testing, recording, mapping, and evaluating archaeological sites and supporting field surveys and monitoring during construction. This position includes providing desktop reviews and field surveys (pedestrian, shovel test, and mechanical trench surveys) using Trimble GPS units and Terrasync data collection software, preparing technical reports, and communicating results for appropriate site recommendations. This position will be based in our Houston, Texas office with responsibilities that also include travel for fieldwork associated with both local and statewide/regional projects.
This position requires the ability to work in difficult or remote environments, and in varying weather conditions and the ability to work with groups composed of diverse backgrounds. A positive attitude and ability to accept direction is a must, as well as the ability to work independently and to fully plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction.
Minimum Required Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Archeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline
Previous CRM field experience or academic archaeological field school
Knowledge and understanding of equipment, technology, and paperwork used in the recording and documenting of archeological sites and artifacts
Ability to learn about local cultural history and material culture in project areas
Ability to work independently, and to fully plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction
Knowledge of health and safety standards
Valid driver’s license
Ability to work in rough terrain and in varying weather conditions
Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with team members
Ability to pass a drug test and maintain a drug-free work environment
Travel anticipated up to 50%, with reimbursement for project related travel expenses

Preferred Additional Qualifications
Master's degree in Archeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline
Registered Professional Archeologist
Proficient in ArcGIS/ArcPro software
This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits including paid holidays, health insurance, retirement savings account, paid vacation, and paid health leave. Salary range for this position is $3,750 to $5,400/month.
