Job Description
PaleoWest is seeking an Associate Architectural Historian who can lead moderate to complex archival research, windshield and reconnaissance surveys, and prepare built environment assessments and reports as well as develop and execute creative mitigation. Experience in Florida and surrounding states is preferred. The successful candidate will work closely with our growing nationwide Architectural History team as well as archaeologists in our Florida offices.
Architectural Historians at PaleoWest provide support in a variety of project tasks including, but not limited to, the following:
Historic properties surveys and assessments of significance
Federal, state and local level historic preservation compliance
Historic contexts and historic structure and cultural landscape reports
National (NRHP), State (CRHR), and Local Register nominations
Historic properties management planning
Public outreach/education
HABS/HAER/HALS documentation
Historic preservation/treatment plans
Mills Act
Mitigation planning and implementation
Interpretive planning and exhibits
Historic resource photogrammetry and 3D documentation
Qualifications:
Graduate degree in architectural history, historic preservation, public history, heritage conservation, history or a closely related field
Experience with the history, architecture, and infrastructure of the Southeast
Ability to conduct historical resources assessments and prepare associated documents and technical reports
Excellent oral and written communication skills and commitment to achieving team goals
Knowledge of federal, state, and local historical resources regulations/guidelines
Ability to support, as needed, the proposal development process for new business activities
The ideal candidate will have several years’ experience in a variety of areas including:
Leading large and small-scale historic properties surveys
Determinations of Eligibility
NRHP Nominations
Conducting archival research
Developing historic contexts
Understanding of relevant architectural styles
Experience working within appropriate regulatory nexuses
NHPA Section 106 and 110 compliance
CEQA

This position will be based out of PaleoWest’s Tallahassee office with the option of working remotely.
